Sculpt

For his new series of sculptures, aptly titled Sculpt, the artist Ben Elliot is enlisting the help of the most cutting-edge technologies to explore the shapes and forms that have come to define our contemporary era.

Elliot has trained an AI model using a vast and varied collection of images that he carefully collected in recent years. This high-quality “mood board” was the foundation for an ad hoc dataset, aiming to capture the essence of our time—what we see, notice, and recall in our everyday life, online, in bodies, pop culture, architecture, nature, etc. Reflecting a shared aesthetic beyond their singularities, these ultra-contemporary elements crystallize the visual culture of the twenty-first century. From Zaha Hadid’s buildings to Kim Kardashian’s body, from influential brand logos to one-of-a-kind sneakers, from the upcoming Jeddah Tower to the newest scientific discoveries, from ingenious crafting techniques to the simplicity of ocean waves, a common thread emerges: the shape of our time is a flowing curve. Under the constant supervision of Ben Elliot, the fine-tuned AI model “draws inspiration” from these many examples to generate simple, pared-down, sleek 3D shapes, which are then turned into sculptures using innovative, sustainably sourced, biodegradable materials.

Each piece in Elliot’s Sculpt series comes with a blockchain-certified digital counterpart , ensuring the seamless coexistence of the physical and digital. Sculpt merges tradition with innovation with a contemporary answer to the question: “What is the shape of now?” At the crossroads of sustainability, data mining, and art, Ben Elliot creates remarkable artifacts that also embody the impact of technology on our daily lives, inviting us to look at the flow of the world around us with a sharper eye.
